Scripture Against Word of Faith Heresy

Anyone who has a precursory knowledge of Word of Faith and it’s heretical theology has heard of the “Jesus died spiritually doctrine,” which is also known as the “Jesus was born again in Hell” doctrine.  It is very popular among teachers such as the late Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Frederick Price, and Creflo Dollar.  They maintain that it wasn’t Jesus’ death on the cross that was sufficient for our salvation.  They claim Jesus had to take on the nature of Satan, go to Hell, and be born again.  If this sounds like blasphemy, that’s because it is. 

Here are several quotes:

“Physical death would not remove our sins. He tasted death for every man – spiritual death. Jesus is the first person ever to be born again. Why did HIS spirit need to be born again? Because it was estranged from God.” (”The Name Of Jesus”, Kenneth E. Hagin, pp. 29-30.)]

“Do you think that the punishment for our sin was to die on a cross? If that were the case, the two thieves could have paid your price. No, the punishment was to go into hell itself and to serve time in hell separated from God … Satan and all the demons of hell thought that they had Him bound and they threw a net over Jesus and dragged Him down to the very pit of hell itself to serve our sentence.” (“Ever Increasing Faith Message”, Frederick K. “It wasn’t the physical death on the cross that paid the price for sin … anybody could do that.” (What Satan Saw on the Day of Pentecost, Kenneth Copeland)  [emphasis mine]

“Every prophet that walked the face of the earth under the Abrahamic covenant could have paid the price if it were a physical death only” “When He said ‘It is finished’ on that cross, He was not speaking of the plan of redemption. This is what Hagin, Price, and Copeland says, but what does God’s Word say?

Colossians 1:19-22

19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fulness to dwell in Him,
20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say , whether things on earth or things in heaven.
21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds,
22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach–

Ya know, I highly doubt that Copeland, Hagin, and others take the time to read this passage, or to literally consider what it says.  They couldn’t possibly, because it completely destroys their whole theology that the physical death of Jesus on the cross was not enough to atone for our sins.  If that was the case, Jesus just could have killed over dead and saved Himself the agony and humiliation of the cross, since it was in Hell that Jesus performed His saving work anyway.  Heresy wreaks, wouldn’t you agree?

But, don’t you just love it when the Word of God clearly obliterates heresy?
