Old Marty sure got it right when he came up with the Sola Grace thingy. I totally agree with Martin Luther. He stated that we are saved by grace alone. Ephesians 2:8-9 is the backbone of the Protestant Reformation, the greatest happening in Church History since the Resurrection of Christ.

I am a born again Pastor, teacher, missionary and student of the Word. I try to study a couple of hours a day because the Word of God fascinates me. I have a deep desire to seek after God and to put Christ first. I truly feel bad for my sins. I always start my day with the good intentions of serving God and resisting sin. I pray a lot. I speak the Word. I listen to Cd’s and tapes and to ministers on the radio. I go to church, I go on missions trips, I feed the homeless. I have never run around on my wife. I have never done drugs. I have never killed any body. I pay my taxes. I sing out loud to the Lord in my truck and in the shower. I do all of these things everyday.

But, at the end of the day I am an utter failure as a Christian. My sin is ever before me. I cannot measure up. I am a total screw up. I sin on accident and on purpose. No matter how hard I try, I always blow it with my big mouth. I am always thinking the wrong things, speaking the wrong things and acting out of my flesh.

It doesn’t matter how much I pray or study the Bible, or how much I apply myself, I suck at being saved. It is a hopeless situation. I get worse everyday!

Thank God that it is BY GRACE that I have been saved, not of my works! I am under the Grace of God. I am the Elect. I have been Chosen by Him before the foundations of the earth. I could not earn it by being good, and I could never keep it by being good. It is all God, all the day long!

Marty was right about those Five Solas!

  1. John, you’re in good company the Apostle Paul said he had the smae issues. We all struggle against the flesh and natural mind and we all do the things that we wish we didn’t. Thanks be to God for his grace and forgivness toward us.

  2. John, I to find it very humbling to know that God counts us as heirs to the throne right in there with Jesus. That is a love that this pea brain can not understand. When I hear people say “I am a good person” and that is what they think gets them to heaven. I can not wonder just how good a person would have to be to get to heaven on their own. That is such a sad thought for me. I know I could never be good enough to get to heaven on my own. But I do know that by the love and grace of Jesus Christ, I will be there one day!
Still reading your blog and glad to see things are progressing for you.

  3. I’m glad you enjoyed the pie. I waited all day for you all to get there so I could eat a piece.

It was all gone the next day.

I’m sure I don’t have any hundreds of readers, maybe two – you and Todd. I told him when I first started it that he might out to check in every couple of days to see what I might be writing about him. :O)

  4. I read it everyday, and so do my friends. I have hundreds of readers, as do you, but they do not comment. Go figure. Keep blogging. Thanks for the peanut butter pie yum yum!!!!!!

  5. Many people think that those who believe in the doctrine of “election” – which we must since it is a Biblical doctrine – are arrogant to believe ourselves to be a part of the “elect” of God.

For me, however, it has instead been the most humbling idea of all.

I’m beginning to think you’re the only person who reads my blog. :O)
